Tailor-made course on Wastewater Treatment

11 October 2024

The combination of theory and applying it to their own management areas during the lessons allowed participants to immediately implement the lessons learned in their daily work. The participants did not always know each other before the course. However, during the course, connections were established, making it easier for them to reach out to one another with work-related questions. Since many of the challenges faced by the participants were similar, they can continue learning from each other even after the course. Due to the success of the first session, we immediately planned and delivered a second session.

Tailor-made course Groundwater Problems

09 October 2024

After thorough preliminary research with the platform, Wateropleidingen developed a three-day customized course on Groundwater Flooding. This course is based on the existing course Groundwater Flooding in Urban Areas but expanded with the following topics: The Azure model; How to utilize data; How to conduct proper groundwater research (in collaboration with Rioned); Differences between the municipalities involved in the platform; Practical cases contributed by the participants. During the lessons, participants applied the theory by translating it to their own management areas. This made the course material immediately relevant and tangible for them. In addition to the instructors provided by Wateropleidingen, various topics were also presented by course participants who are experts in those areas. The instructors built on these presentations by connecting the theory and sharing their own experiences. Participants were also encouraged to share their experiences, resulting in a dynamic mix where participants played a significant role.

Cleaner Effluent and Energy-Conscious Treatment

09 October 2024

Employees of the Aa en Maas Water Board had already completed Wateropleidingen's "Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology" course, and it left them wanting more. The water board aimed to offer an innovative follow-up training for its staff. This follow-up needed to address the fact that the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the new European Urban Wastewater Directive are imposing increasingly strict requirements on effluent quality. In addition, the water boards are striving to become fully energy-neutral by 2023. As a result, the decision was made to develop a new learning pathway.

E-learning Assetmanagement

09 October 2024

The e-learning was fully customized for Waternet. Based on the learning objectives of the water utility company, Wateropleidingen developed a structure for the e-learning. It features a balanced approach to acquiring knowledge, using various methods. For example, the e-learning includes assignments, texts, and case studies, videos featuring Waternet experts, animations, and interactive images. Thanks to active collaboration with Waternet experts, it was possible to incorporate knowledge and practical examples from the organization. Additionally, all animations and images are easily recognizable to employees, as they are designed in Waternet’s corporate style. At Waternet’s request, Wateropleidingen built the e-learning in Lectora, the professional software tool that Waternet also uses for its e-learning programs. This choice allows Waternet to maintain, update, and modify the e-learning after it has been delivered by Wateropleidingen.

Climate-Resilient Design of Stream Valleys, Drenthe

13 September 2024

Wateropleidingen developed a customized course focused on the unique water system in Drenthe. Due to the area's elevation differences, there are many streams and stream valleys. However, the foundation and slope gradient cannot be compared to those of streams in other provinces. For instance, the composition of a streambed in Drenthe is different, and the separating layers between the permeable soil layers also differ in nature. This leads to specific starting points for the hydrological system in the areas where the streams are located, hence the need for a tailored approach.
