Wastewater Treatment Technology
Learning targets
Wastewater treatment is essential for improving the quality of surface water and the environment. It is a complex process with many steps, interactions, and opportunities for adjustment. As a process operator, it is your responsibility to carry out this work efficiently and effectively. What basic knowledge do you need for this?
In the Wastewater Treatment Technology course, we introduce you to the fundamentals of wastewater and its treatment. You will gain insight into the various process steps and control options. Additionally, you will learn about the technical aspects that play a role in water treatment.
After completing the Wastewater Treatment Technology course, you will have the basic knowledge to apply this field in practice.
The following topics will be covered:
- treatment processes, process control, and technology
- basic knowledge of chemistry and microbiology
- physico-chemical processes and legislation
- treatment processes for domestic and industrial wastewater
- activated sludge principles and nitrogen and phosphorus removal
- sludge line, sludge final treatment, and environmental nuisances
- process control
- troubleshooting and costs
- civil engineering

Personal Contribution
At World Water Academy, knowledge and practice are equally important. Therefore, we expect each participant to bring their own work experience to the course. What challenges are you facing? What experiences can you share so that others can learn from them
Target group
The course Wastewater Treatment Technology, is intended for treatment staff, electrical engineering staff, and technical staff C at a treatment plant, as well as for work planners and basic operators who want to acquire knowledge of the process.
Entry Level
You should have a background in MBO (vocational) education. Additionally, we expect you to have at least 1 year of wastewater-related work experience at an operational level. If you do not fully meet these requirements, the coordinator will contact you after registration. Together, you will discuss what is needed to successfully complete the course.
Special Notes
The course Wastewater Treatment Technology provides a perfect foundation, after which you can deepen your knowledge with the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology course. For a more hands-on approach, you can opt for the Practical Program: Wastewater Treatment Technology, which you follow in your own work environment.
