Visual Sewer Inspection for Inspectors
Learning targets
As a sewer inspector, you are responsible for providing the correct information that allows the manager to check how the sewer system is functioning and determine if any measures are needed. How do you carry out this inspection professionally?
During the Visual Sewer Inspection for Inspectors course – a follow-up to the Introduction to Sewer Technology – you will learn how to gather reliable data about the condition of sewers and manholes. The sewer system manager needs this information to ensure that the sewer system continues to function properly, or to determine if repairs, renovation, or replacement are necessary. After completing this course, you will be able to perform visual inspections competently, following the applicable standard NEN-EN 13508-2:2003+A1:2011+CNL1:2021.
As of August 14, 2017, World Water Academy took over this course from Stichting RIONED.
The following topics will be covered:
- the role of visual inspection in sewer management
- importance, necessity, and use of standards
- observing, identifying, classifying, and coding condition aspects according to the latest version of NEN-EN 13508-2

- collaboration between client (sewer manager) and contractor (you as a sewer inspector), including new possibilities with the GWSW-RibX exchange format
After completing this course, you will have the following knowledge & skills:
- collecting data
- applying NEN-EN 13508-2:2003+A1:2011+CNL1:2021 in your inspections
