Urban Water
Learning targets
Good water management is crucial for the living environment. Water professionals in municipalities and water authorities understand this, and residents and policymakers are increasingly becoming aware of it as well. As a policy officer, you will face various questions. What do you need to sustainably design urban water systems through new environmental management?
The Urban Water course addresses the latest policy developments and other aspects you need to know when designing water and space. Additionally, you will gain insight into how water systems function. Numerous practical examples highlight the effects of extreme weather influences in the urban environment, from flooding to heat and drought. What exactly is “good management”? And what are the rules for this? What solutions truly contribute to better water management? How do you jointly determine the effectiveness of measures? What role do sustainability and spatial quality play? And when is water management climate-proof?
In the Urban Water course, you will learn how to implement the new requirements for the design and management of public spaces and private land regarding water.
The following topics will be covered:
- new policies and legislation for urban water management
- how do we incorporate water within environmental management?
- what works and what doesn’t?
- water management assessment of sustainability, climate adaptation, and spatial quality: feasibility study for integrating water into spatial planning
- how does urban water flow? (integrated modeling)
- insight into water quality and ecology
- how can citizens contribute to climate adaptation?
- how to consider future demands and requirements for the water system when redesigning existing urban areas?
After completing this course, you will have the following knowledge & skills:
- the latest developments in policy and legislation
- factors that influence water systems and the effects of measures
- a future-proof urban water system
