Practical Program: Wastewater Treatment Technology
Learning targets
The effective treatment of wastewater is a complex process with many steps and opportunities for intervention. As a process operator, it is your responsibility to manage this process smoothly. How do you do that?
In the Practical Program: Wastewater Treatment Technology, you will learn how to translate your daily work experience into the theory of wastewater treatment. You will make the leap from “what” to “why.” You will gain practical knowledge about the various process steps, the interrelationship between processes, and the ways to control them. What you learn is immediately applied in practice—on your own work floor, where the training takes place.
Experience how inspiring it is to carry out assignments related to wastewater treatment and gather knowledge in your own work environment.
You will work on the following themes at your treatment plant:
- process management
- monitoring, measuring, and recording
- process control, maintenance, and technical malfunctions
- process disruptions
After completing this training, you will have the following knowledge and skills:
- understanding of the functioning of the various process steps in your own wastewater treatment plant
- ability to recognize, identify, and assess disruptions and interventions in the process
- extensive practical knowledge
Program
You will independently carry out assignments for each theme. This takes place within your own organization, under the guidance of a practical supervisor who also works there.
Time Investment
The total duration of the program is determined by you, in consultation with the practical supervisor and the training coordinator. On average, you will invest around 100 hours.
Exam
The program concludes with an oral practical exam. If you achieve a score of 5.5 or higher, you will receive your diploma for the Practical Program: Wastewater Treatment Technology.
Target group
The Practical Program: Wastewater Treatment Technology is intended for individuals who are new to the treatment plant, foremen, operators, process staff, or those who want to learn the basic principles of wastewater treatment at their own pace through practical experience.
Learning Together
Although you follow the program individually, you will discuss many assignments with your practical supervisor. You also have the option to involve your direct colleagues in the practical program. It is up to you to take the initiative to learn together with them.
Entry Level
Your background should include a secondary vocational education (VMBO/MBO). If you do not fully meet this requirement, the coordinator will contact you after registration. Together, you will discuss what is needed for you to successfully complete the program.
Intake
At the start of the program, you will have a detailed intake. You will discuss your motivation, the assignments, and the schedule with the coordinator from World Water Academy and the practical supervisor.
Special Notes
This program can be used as an onboarding process for new entrants or those transitioning from other fields.
