Practical Program: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology

Learning targets

If you work at a wastewater treatment plant, you know that there are many opportunities to intervene in the processes that take place there. It requires a lot from the process operator to meet all quality requirements during maintenance, modifications, or new construction. Besides having a good mindset, you need knowledge of the various components, processes, and control options, as well as a solid understanding of how they interconnect. How do all these elements come together in your workplace?

In the Practical Program: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology, you will learn how to translate your daily work experience into the theory of wastewater treatment. You will make the leap from “what” to “why.” What you learn is immediately applied in practice—on your own work floor, where the training takes place.

Discover how your work environment gains more depth by diving into the techniques of wastewater treatment. It’s an experience that provides a lot of energy!

You will work on the following themes at your treatment plant:

  • process management
  • monitoring and measuring
  • process control, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • policy and planning

Upon completing this course, you will have the following knowledge & skills:

  • understanding the functioning of the various process steps in your own wastewater treatment plant
  • recognizing, identifying, and analyzing disruptions and interventions in the process
  • providing appropriate recommendations for process improvements

Program

Independently, you will carry out assignments for each theme. This will take place within your own organization, under the guidance of a direct colleague who has extensive practical experience in wastewater treatment.

Time Investment

The total duration of the program is determined by you, in consultation with the practical supervisor and the training coordinator. On average, you will invest around 100 hours.

Exam

The assignments will be assessed periodically by an external examiner, who will also conduct the final interview with you. The program concludes with an oral practical exam. If you achieve a score of 5.5 or higher, you will receive your diploma for the Practical Program: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology.

Target group

The Practical Program: Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technology is intended for individuals who are new to the treatment plant, foremen, operators, process staff, or those who want to explore the process steps of wastewater treatment in greater depth at their own pace through practical experience.

Learning Together

Although you follow the program individually, you will discuss many of the assignments with your practical supervisor. You also have the option to involve your direct colleagues in the practical program. It is up to you to take the initiative to learn together with them.
