Hygienic working in the distribution of drinking water
Learning targets
The Dutch drinking water is among the best in the world, which means that we can always rely on clean and hygienically safe drinking water. Work on the pipeline network must not negatively affect water quality. Therefore, it is essential to always ensure hygienic conditions.
This course consists of a general part, which covers, among other things, microbiological contamination and water-related diseases. In the more specific part of the course, you will learn how to work hygienically and how to disinfect pipes, materials, and tools.

- water-related diseases
- the safety pillars for preventing contamination
- rules regarding general and personal hygiene
- commissioning and decommissioning pipeline sections
- methods for ensuring the hygienic reliability of pipelines
- disinfecting pipelines, materials, and tools
- hygiene during work execution
- hygiene measures when using fire hydrants (sluice effect)
- water quality assessment after work
After completing this course, you will have:

Personal Contribution
As part of the program, you are expected to actively participate by sharing experiences or challenges from your work practice. This way, we learn not only the theory but also more about the experiences from each other’s work practice.

This course is intended for professionals working within a drinking water company or with a contractor as a fitter, technician, supervisor, team leader, or inspector. If you want to learn more about hygienic practices in drinking water distribution systems, then this is the course for you.
