From Specialist to Teacher

Learning targets

You have been asked, as a subject matter expert, to teach a lesson for colleagues or external participants on a subject in which you have a lot of experience. You are eager to do this but are looking for guidance on how to structure such a lesson. What do you need to know before stepping ‘in front of the class’?

In the From Specialist to Teacher course, you will discover that teaching is more than just ‘telling a story about your work.’ It requires adapting to your audience, structuring your lesson, and understanding that your behavior as a teacher also plays a role. You will gain insight into the importance of learning objectives, lesson plans, and teaching methods. You will also practice by giving a mini-lesson to your peers.

By the end of the From Specialist to Teacher course, you will have gained knowledge of techniques that will help you enjoy standing in front of a group. After all, what could be more enjoyable than sharing your passion with others?

The following topics will be covered:

• role and behavior of a teacher
• learning styles of students
• purpose and use of learning objectives
• working with a lesson plan
• toolbox of interactive teaching methods
• preparing and delivering a mini-lesson

By the end of this course, you will have acquired the following knowledge & skills:

• explain the skills and behaviors expected of a teacher
• formulate learning objectives
• explain what a lesson plan is
• provide examples of interactive teaching methods

Target group

The From Specialist to Teacher course is intended for experts and specialists who are, or will be, teaching under the banner of World Water Academy.

Learning Together

The group consists of experts, who are either starting out or already experienced in teaching. We create an enthusiastic learning environment where you will work together on didactic themes and provide each other with feedback on the mini-lessons.

Entry Level

Everyone is welcome, as long as you are motivated to share your knowledge with people from the watersector who are eager to learn.

Intake

No intake is required for this course. We start the day with an extensive introduction session.

The From Specialist to Teacher course can also be organized in-company. The program is tailored to the needs of the participants.
