Current Purification Techniques
Learning targets
The quality of our drinking water sources is increasingly under pressure due to rising pollution. Additionally, the drinking water companies must be flexible and respond to varying consumption patterns and growing water demand. To continue delivering high-quality water, drinking water companies have to use a greater variety and more sophisticated purification techniques. During this training, you will learn about the purification techniques used and their impact on operations and sustainability requirements.
The following topics will be covered:
- traditional purification techniques
- intake and treatment of surface water
- wash water and sludge processing
- new purification techniques
- operation of purification plants
- purification technology design
- reuse of residual materials
After completing this course, you will have:
- insight into the operation and effectiveness of various purification stages
- knowledge of purification steps such as aeration, filtration, coagulation, disinfection, oxidation, activated carbon filtration, ion exchange, and membrane filtration
- understanding of how processes work, including their advantages and disadvantages
- knowledge of how to optimize the purification process in your own company to make well-informed decisions
Program
Module 1: Purification Techniques
This module covers all traditional and more advanced purification techniques. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each technique in detail, and you will also visit a purification facility.
- sources of drinking water supply
- water quality and drinking water standards
- aeration and degassing
- groundwater filtration, rapid filtration, slow sand filtration
- conditioning:
- softening and deacidification
- pH correction and remineralization
- chemicals
- flocculation and removal
- disinfection and oxidation
- membrane filtration
- activated carbon and ion exchange
- sludge and residual materials
Personal Contribution
As part of the program, you are expected to give a presentation on a purification technology topic. You can include experiences or issues from your company, allowing us to learn more about the practical experiences of each company in addition to the theory.
Target group
This training is intended for professionals working in a drinking water company as an operations manager, process technologist, or process operator. If you work with advanced purification techniques and wish to share knowledge and experience with other professionals, then this is the course for you.
