Have you also noticed that your role as a water system manager is changing? The effects of climate change, attention to the circular economy, and the active involvement of diverse stakeholders are significant reasons for this shift. You're no longer just responsible for efficient water drainage; now, your portfolio includes addressing drought, maintaining good water quality, combating invasive species, managing maintenance efficiently, asset management, and supervising contractors. What do you need to manage this broad range of responsibilities?
In our Climate, Management, and Maintenance course, you will develop up-to-date knowledge of climate-adaptive water management and maintenance. But it’s not just about knowledge; you also need to be able to involve others in this work, both within and outside your immediate work environment. You’ll practice the skills needed for this.
With the Climate, Management, and Maintenance course under your belt, you will become an even stronger representative of your organization. You will know exactly how to incorporate all the developments within your management area into your daily work and how to communicate effectively about them.
The following topics will be covered:
- water system: water management, water balance, level management, emergencies, water quality, flora and fauna
- climate: climate change, weather influences, drought, rewetting, invasive species, effects on soil and nature
- maintenance types: mowing, dredging, level management, earthworks, risk-based, preventive, corrective
- outsourcing maintenance: supervision and management, contract types, contracting
- integrated systems thinking, your environment, and management area
- legislation and regulations
- management, data, and asset monitoring
- presentation of yourself, your work, and your organization; dealing with stakeholder interests and policies
After completing this course, you will have the following knowledge & skills:

Module 1: The Water System
What does the water system look like through the lens of water quantity and quality?

Module 2: Management and Maintenance
Management and maintenance are essential to meet the goals of the Water Framework Directive and biodiversity. But how exactly does that work?

Personal input
At Wateropleidingen, everything revolves around both knowledge and practice. Therefore, we expect each participant to bring their own work experiences to the course. Your area – and that of all participants – will be used as a case study to work on together. This way, we not only learn the theory but also gain insights into each other’s experiences. Together, we search for solutions that you can immediately apply.

The Climate, Management, and Maintenance course is intended for water system managers, level managers, management and maintenance staff, or field staff.

You should have a background in an MBO (secondary vocational education) program. If you don’t fully meet this requirement, the coordinator will contact you after registration to discuss what is needed to successfully complete the course.
