Cleaning and disinfection of drinking water installations

Learning targets

For clear management and maintenance of drinking water installations, VEWIN (the national association of water companies in the Netherlands) has developed the Waterwerkbladen guidelines. How do you follow the instructions for commissioning, cleaning, and disinfecting drinking water installations?

In the Cleaning and Disinfection of Drinking Water Installations course, you will be introduced to Waterwerkblad 2.4, based on the NEN 1006+A1 standard (General regulations for drinking water installations). Flushing, cleaning, and disinfecting are essential for newly installed pipes, pipes where water has been stagnant for extended periods, and systems contaminated with Legionella. In addition to learning about Waterwerkblad 2.4, you will gain experience in creating plans for safe and effective cleaning and disinfection of drinking water installations.

Topics covered include:

  • situations requiring flushing, cleaning, and/or disinfection of pipes
  • requirements for flushing, cleaning, and disinfecting according to Waterwerkblad 2.4
  • action plan for flushing, cleaning, and disinfecting a collective drinking water installation, with attention to the resistance of pipe materials and components against temperatures and chemicals
  • legislation regarding discharges into the sewer system
  • commissioning of a (new) installation

After completing this course, you will have the following knowledge & skills:

  • identifying situations where pipes need to be flushed, cleaned, or disinfected
  • developing an action plan for cleaning and disinfecting drinking water installations
  • applying the requirements of Waterwerkblad 2.4
  • complying with laws and regulations related to sewer discharges

  • legislation regarding flushing and sewer discharges
  • situations where pipes need to be cleaned and/or disinfected
  • requirements for cleaning and disinfecting (Waterwerkblad 2.4)
  • action plan for cleaning and disinfecting a collective drinking water installation
  • legislation regarding cleaning and disinfection in relation to sewer discharges
  • commissioning of a (new) installation

Your contribution

Target group

The Cleaning and Disinfection of Drinking Water Installations course is designed for installers, professionals with advisory or operational roles focused on Legionella prevention, and owners/managers of collective drinking water installations.

Learning together

You will be one of 12 to 16 professionals participating in this course. This group-based approach creates an enthusiastic learning environment where you can engage in valuable discussions about the course content and your work situation.

Entry level

You should have an educational background equivalent to an MBO level 3-4 diploma.

Special notes

The Cleaning and Disinfection of Drinking Water Installations course is part of the training path for Inspector Safe Drinking Water Installations and Expert Safe Drinking Water Installations.
