Year Review 2024

In recent years, World Water Academy has made great strides in bringing water professionals, research, and education in the water sector closer together. We have built bridges, strengthened collaborations, and actively contributed to knowledge strengthening and innovation—both in the Netherlands and beyond.

The year 2024 was all about Stronger Together. We reinforced our foundation, expanded partnerships, and introduced innovative learning programs, such as the learning track Future-Oriented Wastewater Treatment, in response to the challenges of tomorrow. Additionally, we proudly celebrated our 30th anniversary, while an increasing number of organizations turned to us for customized solutions.

With this strong foundation and a focus on the future, we continue our mission: to connect, strengthen, and innovate water knowledge.

Training programs

By 2024, 331 programmes and courses started, including some new titles.

Tailor-made Services

We develop customized solutions. Each year, we deliver many tailor-made learning interventions for a wide range of organizations in the water sector.

International

Under the name World Water Academy, we also want to raise the level of craftsmanship in the water sector outside the Netherlands. In the past year, we did this in several collaborative projects.

Didactics

We have developed innovative (digital) methods to add interactivity to our lessons. We also trained our teachers intensively and organised several meetings to strengthen the bonds between them.

Tailor-made Services

Kick-Off Training Programme in Rabat, Marocco

11 December 2024

On 3 and 4 December 2024, the Ministry of Water & Equipment in Rabat hosted the opening sessions of a tailor-made training program on digitalisation and water management. Organised by World Water Academy (WWA) in collaboration with Hydrologic and Resing, the program aims to enhance participants' knowledge about smart solutions across the water cycle, from extraction to reuse. The first two days were a success, with participants actively engaging in discussions and activities.

WWA Workshop at WISA2024: Empowering Women in Water

World Water Academy's workshop, "Strategic Capacity Building for a Future-Proof Water Sector: Women in Water," held at the WISA2024 Biennial Conference in Durban, South Africa, was an outstanding success. Co-hosted by the Blue Deal, this dynamic session captivated a diverse audience, particularly young women passionate about the water sector.

Weather and Water Management course is celebrating its 20th anniversary: an excellent combination!

Whoever has a birthday treats. The same goes for the Weather and Water Management course, which has been a success under the banner of Wateropleidingen for 20 years. Former students and invited guests were able to participate in a refresher course free of charge on September 19. Prior to this, we spoke with the 'founding fathers' of the course: Arnold Lobbrecht and Gerrit Hiemstra. What do they want to convey to water managers?

Wateropleidingen celebrates 30th year anniversary

Wateropleidingen is a well-known entity in the sector. Since 1994, the foundation has been offering a broad range of courses to water professionals. Wateropleidingen director Gabriëlle Knufman and Gerhard van den Top, member of the Supervisory Board, enthusiastically talk about this milestone. The importance of the training is highlighted by the stories of Hilde Niezen, director of RIONED, and Erik Wagener, Secretary Director of the Amstel, Gooi and Vecht Water Board and former director of the Flood Protection Program.
