Advancing Digitalisation and Water Reuse for Morocco

In December 2024, World Water Academy (WWA) launched a tailor-made training programme in Rabat, Morocco, for professionals from the Ministry of Water & Equipment. Organised in collaboration with Hydrologic and Resing, the training is part of the MENA Scholarship Programme (MSP), funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Nuffic. The training aims to enhance participants’ knowledge of smart water management solutions across the entire water cycle, from extraction to reuse. The programme responds to a growing need for digitalisation and integrated approaches to address water challenges in the Middle East and North Africa.

Programme

The training commenced with two intensive days of learning and collaboration. On the first day, participants shared insights into local water management challenges and opportunities, followed by an overview of the water cycle, including extraction, distribution, wastewater treatment, and reuse. Lively discussions highlighted the importance of effective management and regulation. Day two focused on the role of data and digitalisation. Experts from Resing demonstrated monitoring systems in action and their application in optimising water management processes. Participants reflected on the potential of digital tools in their regions, discussing challenges, opportunities, and strategies for implementation.

Outcome

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of digital tools and techniques for sustainable water management. The programme fostered knowledge exchange and collaborative problem-solving, setting the stage for actionable strategies to be developed in subsequent sessions.

With its initial success, the programme will continue early next year, diving deeper into specialised topics and collaborative assignments tailored to local contexts.
